The Magic Roundabout
‘THE MAGIC ROUNDABOUT’ was created in France in 1963 by Serge Danot, the 441 programmes were originally broadcast on ‘Office de Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française’ (ORTF) between 1964 and 1971, in it’s original language of French. The animations were re-scripted and the voiceovers re-recoreded in English by Eric Thompson, some of which didn’t relate to the original storylines at all, hence the hallucinogenic feel to the programme – which, along with it’s dry humour, made the programme as popular with adults as it was with the children for whom it was created. The English version was broadcasted between 18th of October 1965 until 25th of January 1977.
